Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL)
Introducing the ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens), exclusively available on the Central Coast at Shepard Eye Center.

The next generation of eye surgery has arrived.

For those who have considered LASIK Vision Correction, but were not a candidate for the procedure, may now have an opportunity to have your vision corrected beyond LASIK.

The ICL or Implantable Collamer Lens, corrects vision in a manner similar to contact lenses, but the lens in placed into the eye through a small incision rather than riding on top of it. Similar to LASIK, the surgery takes only a few minutes and the ICL corrects amounts of nearsightedness for beyond that of LASIK.

The surgeons at Shepard Eye Center offer this new procedure exclusively. Our center was selected as one of only 20 sites in the United States that participated in the study that led to the recent FDA approval of the ICL. As leaders in advanced eye surgery techniques, the surgeons of Shepard Eye Center are among the very few eye doctors that are permitted to implant the ICL.

Dr. Stephen Bylsma, Refractive Surgeon at Shepard Eye Center, travels the world to teach other surgeons how to implant the lens.
