With advanced training in glaucoma and anterior segment disease, Dr. James Franta has practiced optometry in Santa Maria since 1990. His areas of special interest also include contact lens and low-vision correction.
Dr. Franta received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University. While pursuing his doctorate, he underwent training at the Vancouver Veterans Hospital, Grace Peck Memorial Clinic and Pacific University’s Portland Clinic. Dr. Franta demonstrated dedication to advanced training while studying anterior segment disease and glaucoma at the University of California at Berkeley’s School of Optometry.
Among the many activities he pursues to support the importance of healthy eyes and vision care, Dr. Franta has participated in the school vision screening programs offered in both Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.
Dr. Franta and his wife, both of whom grew up on the Central Coast, are raising their sons in the area and enjoy the closeness of family and community.
